LA weekends (Los Angeles)

 Hi everybody,

since a few weeks (with some breaks) I am stuck in the LA area working on an aerospace project in Lancaster - for those who are interested: Protected content

Because almost all of my co-workers are Americans and have their families living nearby I usually spend the free weekends on my own in LA.
My problem: all the standard written tourist guides are used up and hanging around on the pool or the beach the whole weekend is just not my style.

So if anybody knows some nice spots beside the usual tourist attractions - activities, events, nightlife - I will appreciate any recommendation.
