Moving to LA with children (Los Angeles)

Hi, my family and I are planning to move to the US from London in summer of Protected content . My husband and children are dual Brit-Americans and I am going through the mountains of paperwork for my visa!

I wonder if anyone could suggest any reading I might do about schools and expectations for them in the US in general - particularly as I don't know exactly where in LA we will be living. My children will be 10 and 13 by the time we arrive for them to start school. Here in the UK you would look at Ofsted and talk to other parents about good schools and what is good about them versus bad schools and what to avoid. Am happy to look at websites or anything to give me an idea about what will be available.

I'd appreciate ANY pointers really as I am starting from zero!!
