WHY do Events cost anything at all? (Los Angeles)

Hi, I'm an actress and on the board of a members only club 41 ocean, also former ambassador for ASW and member of Ivy Connect. I find international to be one of those things that strangely asks me to pay for some of the lowest tier venues and uninspiring programming. We all know hotels and venues benefit from having groups there but these gatherings without any kind of "program" (I have a fresh speaker series called Provoke which is like TED unplugged with fashion and music elements so I speak from experience).. You have a board and access to venues- do something with it. Random parties are uninteresting and if there's one thing I expect from an international community is a diversity of educated interesting innovative people. Profile them and do something cohesive..
