Moving to Maastricht (or surrounding area)

Hello,
I will be temporarily assigned to Brunssum but would prefer to live in Maastricht or somewhere between the 2 cities. What is the best area to look for an apartment. I would like to be able to easily access the motorway to Brunssum and also be able reach the center of Masstricht easily either by bike, bus or train. I am also single and would prefer to live somewhere I can have a healthy social life.
