Travel to Madagascar

Hi all! I'm going to Madagascar in May:) this is my first time to there and all by myself. Wondering if it is safe to be there walk around by myself ? I would like to see the local and do some charity work. If anyone here can give me some suggestions or meeting up ? :) it will be super nice if I can meet some girls and have some ideas of how the city is :) thanks a lot!
