International schools in Madrid

Hi,
My family and I are moving to Madrid from USA in August.
I am very excited about the move but have lots of questions. So, thanks for helping me out here.
Here are my first couple of questions -
1. Opinions on International/English schools for 1st graders? I sent in applications for Hasting and Numont. Anyone has any experience with them? Any other school recommendations?
2. I've heard these schools are oversubscribed and difficult to get into. Is there anything I should be doing to improve my chances?
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
