Moving from Vancouver to Madrid

Hi everyone!
I want to move to Madrid this year with my spanish boyfriend, but I don´t know how difficult it is. I want to start spanish lessons there and maybe you can recommend to me an academy/university. Also I would like to start working there but I know that is difficult because the student visa doesn´t allow that. Any suggestions about how I can do that? I would really appreciate previous experiences of other people and canadians living there. How did you do it?
