moving to the south of Spain. (Málaga)

I have just joined and would be very grateful for some advice on moving to the south of Spain and where we should set our sights on living.
At the moment we live in Mexico and my husband is retiring in the summer and with two children living in Europe we have decided to move too.
I have spent months scouring the net looking for villages which are close enough to an airport for easy flights to Madrid and London where our children live.
The idea is to rent a small house for six months or a year while we see if we can buy somewhere.
We have discovered that our Mexican driving licences aren´t valid in Spain so won´t be able to buy a car and drive until one of us sits the test (hopefully, my husband), which hampers our chances of looking at villages ourselves.
We would prefer a village by the sea.
