Moving to Malta

I am a single 50 year old looking to move to Malta. I would need to work but will have enough to live on for about a year.
I would like to know if I need a Maltese will and if I have to favour any offspring here in the uk?
How easy is to purchase a property?
I have been reading about work and permits and I am finding very confusing, would it be easier to get that sorted out once I'm living in Malta?
I have a cat that is chipped and if I have all the paperwork needed would I be able to bring him with me? What would be the paperwork that I would need for him?
