The World Beat Café will be proudly hosting yet another ‘art event’. This time, featuring a young and very talented Bahraini artist. The exhibition, “Extinction” is a selection of drawings by award winning artist Mariam Haji AlJanahi on Saturday 12 May from 4-6pm. Mariam is interested in exploring the relationship between the impacts of contemporary art practices on classical drawing. She is curious as to whether it is contributing to the extinction of Drawing. Ms. AlJenahi admires the photographic practice of artist Abdullah Mohammed Al-Khan. She believes he archived an extinct Bahrain therefore she plays with the idea of a hyper realistic drawing having the ability to record and archive photographs.

Mariam Haji graduated from RMIT, Melbourne, Australia in the field of Fine Art and since she has been extremely committed to bringing art to the public by being involved in Festivals, Biennials, giving lectures in Schools / Universities and teaching workshops to the public in the Kingdom of Bahrain and other countries. If this journey of contrasting hyper realistic drawings and it’s role in classical art appeals to you, mark your calendars for the exhibition opening on Saturday 12 May from Protected content . You will have an opportunity to meet the artist and see her work in a fresh setting. This is a free event, open to everyone, and light refreshments will be served.
