APEC Summit - Nov 18 & 19: +-400 flights canceled (Manila)

At least Protected content and Cebu Pacific flights are canceled for APEC Summit security - so far. (More could be canceled within the next days.)

Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific are cancelling at least Protected content and international flights as part of security measures for the APEC Leaders Meeting in Manila during the third week of November.

Leaders from the 21-member Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation are converging in Manila to discuss the latest developments in trade and investments. Bilateral meetings are also expected to take place on the sidelines of the two-day summit happening on November 18 and 19.

PAL has revealed more than Protected content are affected from November 15 to 20, including Protected content and 96 international flights. Passengers have the option to rebook their flights with no rebooking and penalty charges.

Several runways at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will be closed to give way for the arrival and departure of the APEC delegates.

“It is PAL’s aim to operate or consolidate as many flights as possible, as allowed within this period,” the airline earlier said.

In a text message to GMA News Online on Monday, PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna noted: "211 flights – both domestic and international – within the period November 15 to November 20 have been declared canceled to give way to the arrival and departure of APEC leaders.

"These flights cannot operate because their schedules fall within the periods of runway closures. Said runway closures within no-fly zone periods are necessary to ensure the safety of flight movements of Heads of State and Economic Ministers," Villaluna added.
