Moving to Manila in October

Hello all, my wife (a filipina) and I met in the United Arab Emirates, and are moving to Manila from Abu Dhabi this October. We plan to get a place in Manila and stay there for 6 months, and then decide whether to stay in Manila or return to San Francisco where I am from. I've been to the Philippines 6 times over the years, both with her and before I met her, but only on brief vacations. Looking forward to giving a more permanent stay a try. So........anybody have any recommendations/suggestions/warnings???
