moving to the Philippines and getting married (Manila)

Hi,

I been having a major concern and hope that someone can help? I am leaving for the Philippines in may and am getting married to a Filipino citizen. I myself is an American Citizen. Now my visa is good for 90 day in which I will be married. I know after I can apply for Permanent residence. The big question is what do I do before my ninety days is to stay in the country. I have heard it could take months to get approval. Can I just get an extension on my visa? Or is there somthing else I need to do.
