Safety in Manila??

Hi Guys/Girls
I hope you are all well. Shortly my partner and I are moving to Manila on business. I'm quite excited about it. Although I'm quite shocked by some of the things I'm reading in the press regarding the new President and some of the killings taking place around the city. I have been to Manila 7 times previously and never feared for my safety. Sure I've been taken advantage of a few times by vendors but it was no big deal and to be expected in any large city.
I suppose my question to you all is that since June Protected content you feel safe in Manila and has anything changed your perception on living in Manila, or am I being concerned over nothing. Thank you all in advance and I'd love to meet some of you when I arrive.
