Tax on incoming furniture and personal items ? (Manila)

Hi there,

I'm just seeking some advice from Expats. that have made a move to the Philippines for an extended period. I understand that you are taxed on the value of any goods you bring in ?...... I refer to the following web site ;

It appears the tax is 42% - ie. 30% tax and 12% duty

So, am I correct that if I bring in a container with AUD$100,000 of goods, I will need to stump up AUD$42,000 ..... The equivalent in Pesos in any event ?

Any tips on minimising this liability.

At this rate, it would seem far more economical to rent a furnished Condo. than bring your own furniture ?
