US Social Security (Manila)

Hello all,

I have lived here in the Philippines now for 3 years this month and am married to a Filipina national. Recently I contacted the US Social Security office in Manila to inquire how to have my wife as my beneficiary in the event of my demise. The response I received in complicated enough but it appears that unless she had live on US soil for at least 2 years she would not be eligible to collect my monthly payouts. Does anyone have a similar experience of listing your Philippine spouse as your Social Security beneficiary and residing here in the Philippines?
