Volunteer Activity - Big Brother, Big Sister - (Manila)

FOR THOSE WHO MAY WANT TO HELP AND TO GO:

Ifugaos celebrate their after-harvest thanksgiving festival "Bakle" with games & street dancing, a day when there is a prohibition on work for the whole day. Chickens are sacrificed and their blood is offered to Bulul, the rice god. Kids donned in ethnic costumes engage in the traditional tug-of-war game and arm-wrestling matches. While these kids enjoy taking a break from their daily planting tasks, their primary task should be studying in school. Even with free education provided by the government, they sacrifice their education to plant rice in the fields because their parents can not afford the school supplies for them to stay in school.

Children have the right to education. Do not let them be the sacrificial chicken. Be a big brother or sister today!
The Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) Community Outreach Program is here to fill that need for these children in the Philippines, especially those who live in remote mountain areas. Each year, sponsors and volunteers carry the school supplies and trek through mountain trails to give them to the children in person. On May Protected content year, BBBS will visit the communities of Banaue and Hungduan in Ifugao province, Northern Luzon to distribute the school packs to at least Protected content .
