Taking money out of ATMs in Medallo (Medellin)

Hi there,

I have been living in Medellín for a month, and will be continuing here for the foreseeable future.

How are you all taking money out of ATMs here? Every time I take money out they charge me 3% plus an ATM fee, so if I take out the maximum of 780.000 pesos (at Servibanca) I get charged almost $20!!! Any tips to avoid getting slammed like that?

I've been told that if I try to open an account here there will be similar charges...

Any tips on how to avoid spending money to get money would be greatly appreciated.
