bringing pets to oz (Melbourne)

Hi. My partner needs to be in melbourne to start work in July. We have 2 cats and a bunny. We know we can't take the bunny and the cats haven't had rabies shots so would be delayed 6 months. We are heartbroken at the thought of leaving them behind (even with the lovely local foster family option we have who can also take their bunny brother so they can all still play together) but equally feel that putting them through the process of injections/crates and quarantine would be too hard for them when they have grown up next door to woods. Also the idea of grass snakes and them going after native wildlife is deeply concerning. My daughters and I don't want to leave them and would worry they'd feel abandoned. Has anyone got any experience of importing/not importing the furry members of the family?
