Cycleing in Col. del Valle (Mexico City)

Hi, i am moving to Mexico D.F. next month and was wondering if cycling to work is a common thing to do. Or is it very dangerous on Mexican streets?
I am also wondering if someone knows a good school for Spanish classes nearby col. del Valle.
