Opening a credit card with temporary residency? (Mexico City)

Hi

My name is Federico, I am from Argentina, new to this group.
I am currently a visiting professor at UAM.

I will stay in Mexico for a year or more and wanted to open a local credit card account. It is useful for buying in monthly installments with zero interest rate. I tried at Santander and Scotia and they turn me down because I have only temporary but no permanent residency permit.

Was anyone able to open a credit card here in mexico without permanent residency? In which bank?
