Employee or freelancer? (Miami)

I have been asking myself, over and over again as a result of this unemployment worldwide, whether one should seek independent jobs or keep on trying to fit into a company. Although having lived in so many places gives advantages, I am not sure at this point, if it is better to use those advantages for independent jobs rather than for a big corporation.

I would love to know your thoughts :)
