American moving to Milano

Ciao, I have my Italian girlfriend living in Milan. We have had this LDR, (long distance relationship) for over 1.5 years. I am planning to move to Milano in the next Protected content , and finally starting our lives together. I have been doing some research and slowly learning the Italian language. I am wondering if other Americans can share some helpful tips with me on making the transition smoother. Easy question one, I hope, is which Visa to get in Miami at the Consulate? Any information would be helpful and appreciated.
