How to get permesso di lavoro as a non-EU citizen (Milan)

Hi all,

I would love ANY information or advice on obtaining a permesso di lavoro, as a non-EU citizen.

I am an Australian woman currently in Milan with a permesso di studio. I enrolled in a degree so that I could spend the time looking for a job. I have no intention of finishing this degree.

I have (luckily) found a job, however I need to now obtain a permesso di lavoro, and subsequently convert it from my current study permit.

Has anyone gone through this experience? Can anyone offer some tips or steps that I should take? I understand that there is NO quota for permessi di lavoro subordinato, so I am looking at the lavoro autonomo permit.
