needing a fiscal code to rent an apparment (Milan)

Hey,
I am staying in a town outside of Milan and am only here for three months so I don't need the fiscal code but now I am renting an apartment and they say I need a fiscal code to do that. Does anyone have general directions or location for a place to get it in Milan or do I have to get one locally, where I live? Any info appreciated!
