Sending money hone? (Milan)

So I currently have a postepay evolution type bank card with the local post office in order to recieve my paycheck every month from my work. However, today I learned they they can't, (or won't) send money back to the USA mainly it seems because they dont use the IBAN system. Has anyone found a workaround by using a bank here in Italy, or by some other method? Right now Im stuck sending Western Union type services to get my money back and forth which a huge inconvenience and cost. I also know that Italians and the red tape masters of the world making the DMV look like Disney World. Any advice?
