Perspectives on Human Trafficking (Minneapolis)

Argosy will host the Fifth Annual Sustainability Conference on February 20, at the Eagan Community Center. This year’s theme is perspectives on human trafficking.

There is trafficking in Minnesota for the sex industry, but also for labor purposes, particularly in agriculture. Many trafficked people are placed in-state through “labor providers”, outsourcing firms, companies hired to provide workers for fields and factories. The demand for trafficked people is reinforced by the North Dakota oil sand fields, where one sex worker can gross $300,000-$500,000 per year. This is an illegal business. It tarnishes other businesses, gobbles up public resources, and endangers us all. Our conference wants to raise public awareness, but then progress to identification, reporting and action. Special afternoon training sessions for human services, law enforcement, community and non-profit groups and business will be held. The business session features Sir Patrick Atkinson, who will speak on how to learn if your company uses trafficked labor either here or abroad. There is no charge for the conference, We hope to see you for some or all of the day. You can register at Protected content
