Is Monterrey Safe?

Hello All,

My Fiance and I are potentially moving to Monterrey for a new job of his (I am American he is Peruvian). My largest concern is in regards to our personal safety and our family's safety, should they come visit us. I've read about kidnappings, organized crime, etc that I am worried about. Can you please let me know what your experiences have been in Monterrey? Do you worry about getting mugged/kidnapped? Do you go outside at night, etc.
