Moving to Punta del Este, What is your opinion? (Montevideo)

We are a mixed family, I'm from the US and my wife is Argentine. We are thinking of moving to Punta del Este. We are not really into the "beach scene" but do like the modern side of life, the fresh air and the stable government. I would like to hear your opinion on living in Punta on a permanent basis, not just summer vacation. What are the schools like? How safe is it compared to Argentina? Any comments or ideas will be greatly appreciated!
