Intensive French program at McGill (Montréal)

Hi everyone,
I am planning on moving to Montreal next summer from the US to take an intensive French course at McGill. Has anyone taken it? Or have any ex-pats taken the test to earn a Certificate of Proficiency in French? And how beneficial is this in obtaining a work permit?
