Options for Learning French (Montréal)

Hello, My husband and I have just arrived from the US. We currently stay in Le Plateau and I will be attending McGill for a master's. Can anyone recommend affordable options for studying French? We heard that the gov't offers intensive courses, but we are not eligible for these currently. We have no previous experience with the language. Thank you!
