russia in general (Moscow)

Hey folks,
I am planning on traveling from Beijing to Berlin through Russia. Apart from me not speaking Russian, are there any "threats" I might come across? Is there anyone who travelled in Russia and has knowledge of how secure it is to drive through this country? Any other thoughts? Furthermore I will take my dog. China e.g. is not very dog friendly, at least in the cities, but if you take care your furry fellow will not end up in a wok. How about Russia?
I really appreciate all comments, no matter what. I am still in the deciding state if I will do it or not. Btw, I am female, looking for a compagnion, who will join me and my dog as I figure doing the whole thing alone is a bit risky... :-)
