Visa and travel question (Moscow)

Hello!

I am an American currently living in Russia on a work visa. I've found a new job and need to do the visa process again. To save money, I'd like to go somewhere in Europe (not all the way back to America). Has anyone gotten a visa in another country? Can anyone give me any advice on which countries are the best/most hassle free? Any help at all would be very much appreciated.
