"I'm Pregnant, Not Terminally Ill, You Idiot" by Lalita Iyer

followed by author interaction on Sunday 25th August at 5 PM.

*About the book: *

Lalita Iyer is allergic to manicured pregnancy books featuring airbrushed mothers and babies in matching gear that tell you what to expect, but cleverly camouflage the unexpected. She was determined to write a pregnancy book that made people laugh, and avoided words like ‘foetus’, ‘eating for two’ and ‘post-baby body’.

She figured it was time to write a real book on pregnancy and motherhood that featured people with real stories instead of sedated zombies who always told you that everything was beautiful. This book is her revenge on all those people who messed with her head during her pregnancy. And after
it. The book talks about stuff like pregnant women made to feel guilty about their libido, the whole fertility politics and how the womb is a metaphor for oneupwomanship among women, how pregnant women/new mothers are conveniently shafted at work, because babies are thought of as some exotic hobby that the corporate world doesn't know how to deal with, about the
whole mutiny around lactation and 'normal' birth and stuff like that.
