Meditation dance workshop May 26th, 11am-1 pm, Ban (Mumbai)
CHIP Mumbai (children in Progress) is organizing a Sufi Whirling dances workshop, “Sufi Calling” turning to a sacred space within
Danseuse Zia Nath will introduce you to the ancient art form of Sufi Whirling- a unique dance form from Sufi schools of dance that help one discover harmony, balance and stillness within.
The introductory workshop focuses on centering exercises and movements to support balance and stability, helping students find their inner sense of balance and stillness. After this we proceed to learning turning techniques and whirling. The music accompanying us will be recorded Persian, Turkish music.
Some people will be deeply touched by the experience of a calm silence within. Some appreciate the stillness of mind and body. Some experience a rejuvenation of the whole body, a burst of energy. Some get emotional. This mystical and meditative dance form is like a mirror to our inner self, a path that guides us to a silent and still space within. Here, we can rest. Even though the body continues to spin. At the center of this paradox of movement and stillness, sound and silence, we touch the sacred space, what the Sufi’s call – Marifet, The Divine Door.
This event is part of a series of workshops conducted to support CHIP an NGO that works to improve Quality Education in Government schools. All proceeds from the workshop will go towards supporting the work carried out by the NGO.
