Mumbai to Chennai in three weeks

My wife and I are arriving in Mumbai later this month for a five month tour of India. We will be travelling in our own vehicle which for various reasons is arriving in Chennai three weeks after we arrive in Mumbai! That gives us three weeks to kill during which time we have to get to Chennai from Mumbai. We would love to hear suggestions for how best to spend that time. Thanks :-)
