potential opportunity for Canadian (Mumbai)

Hi, I'm looking for opinions pls. I am considering an opportunity, headquartered in Mumbai, that would require routine travel to at least 6 locations across the entire country. My wife would relocate with me and we would live in Mumbai. My questions pertain particularly to safety for my wife, secondarily for myself. My perception is that she would need to integrate deeply and almost entirely into the expat community and live in an area such as Bandra West, rarely go out alone and would need to be very selective as to where to venture outside of a very specific area. Does life in Mumbai for a white North American expat consist of constantly looking over your shoulder? Is the life of an expat very heavily focused on relationships with other expats? Is safety something on the mind of an expat Protected content ? Any/all perspectives are appreciated.
