How the privatisation of the German cable network in Protected content about a sea change in the German telco landscape. Historically, the cable network only had one product on offer – cable TV –and was in its entirety owned and operated by Deutsche Telekom. Privatisation broke up the monopoly for good.

However, in the wake of the burst new economy bubble, privatisation was not an easy task as investors were extremely cautious. Nevertheless, some private equity firms spotted the hidden potential of these “sleeping beauties” and acquired the cable assets which were split in three entities (Unitymedia, Kabel BW, Kabel Deutschland). At the time this seemed a risky move. Would investors get a decent return? Would customers get a better product offering at reasonable prices? Would the new owners grow the business or aim for a quick buck? How was the successful IPO in Protected content Kabel Deutschland accomplished?

Our guest speaker will talk about this and more. Dr. Adrian v. Hammerstein is CEO of Kabel Deutschland Holding AG, Europe’s largest cable operator. He has spent most of his working life in the IT and telco industries.
