Terminally unemployed and a full time spectator of life, Simon Labrosse invents a new job for himself everyday – Emotional Stuntman, Ender of Sentences, Ego Flatterer, Easer of Consciences – in order to fill the void in his existence. The one weapon he has to fight against a system which chokes him? He’s alive! And therein lies the heart of this engaging and often hilarious play.

In Seven Days in the Life of Simon Labrosse, Simon Labrosse invites the public to witness a few scenes from his life. His friends, Leo, the dark poet, and Nathalie, the personal development fanatic, do the best they can in their various supporting roles, while Simon shares his countless infallible plans for what he terms his reinsertion into public life. Workless for quite some time, surrounded by rising unemployment and mortgage rates, Simon gets an idea to aide him in his quest to be a participant once again in society: he will offer innovative, original services. However, although Simon guesses the needs and secret wishes of his potential clients with great accuracy, he perhaps goes too far with what he offers…

Ripe with political criticism, criticism of a political system that exists in the western world as we know it today, Seven Days in the Life of Simon Labrosse is a superbly written farce that is both laugh-out-loud funny and unexpectedly moving.

Carole Fréchette, actress, playwright, critic, novelist (b in Montréal 26 July Protected content . Carole Fréchette, one of Canada’s leading women playwrights, studied acting at the National Theatre School before joining the Marxist feminist theatre collective, le Théâtre des Cuisines, in Protected content . Carole Fréchette‘s play, Les Quatre Morts de Marie Protected content , won the Governor General‘s Award and the Chalmers Prize. Her international reputation has been built by productions of her work not only in Canada but France, Belgium, Switzerland, Lebanon, and Syria. For her contribution to Canadian theatre, Fréchette received the prestigious Elinore and Lou Siminovitch Prize in Protected content .

Micheline Chevrier has worked across Canada as director, dramaturg and artistic director for the past thirty years.

As a director she has worked in a variety of professional theatres ranging from major festivals to creation-based companies, from major regional theatres to theatre for young audiences. Her directorial credits include works by Molière, Sophocles, Chekhov, Virginia Woolf, Dario Fo and Edward Albee; several Canadian playwrights such as John Murrell, David Young, Colleen Murphy, Ann-Marie Macdonald and Carol Shields; as well as numerous Quebecois writers such as Michel Tremblay, Michel Marc Bouchard, Carole Fréchette, Jean-Marc Dalpé and François Archambault.

She was Associate Artistic Director at Theatre New Brunswick from Protected content 1992, Associate Dramaturg at Playwrights Workshop Montreal from Protected content 1993, and was Associate Artist at Canadian Stage in Toronto from Protected content 2004. From Protected content 2000, Ms. Chevrier was the Artistic Director of the Great Canadian Theatre Company in Ottawa. She has directed and taught at the National Theatre School, Concordia University, Dalhousie University and University of Alberta to name a few. She is the recipient of several awards including Calgary’s Betty Mitchell Award, Ottawa’s Capital Critic’s Award and Toronto’s Dora Mavor Moore Award. She is a graduate of McGill University and of the University of Toronto’s Drama Centre.

Micheline Chevrier is happy to return to BeMe Theatre, having previously directed The Anger in Ernest and Ernestine for the company in Barcelona.

BeMe Theatre is a Munich-based professional English-language theatre company. We concentrate on producing theatre which is cutting-edge and cross-cultural, outward- and forward-looking. We use international texts, guest artists, design and developmental processes which cross borders both culturally and artistically. BeMe Theatre debuts important international contemporary work new to our audience and explores provocative ideas through the telling of stories; stories which spotlight humanity, politics, and history- the ingredients, affecting human life right in this moment; the elements, shaping and molding our modern society.
