German test for immigrants (Munich)

Hello All! I am from the USA and I am planning to spend a few yeas in Germany with my husband who is German. I got here about a month ago and we are trying to process a work permit for me and we were told that I need to pass a German language exam in order to obtain such permit, I believe it is the Level A2. I have taken some German in California and plan on doing a very intensive German course. I would really like to hear from people that have taken the exam before, is it really difficult? is there a speaking portion to it? Any tips? I would really appreciate any feed back. Thanks!
