Pension payouts UK/Germany (Munich)

I worked in the UK for the first 18 years of my career and since then I have worked in Germany. I'm now almost 63 and am trying to find out what is going to happen when it's time to start claiming a pension (I'll ne staying in Germany for the foreseeable future).

I've been told by the International Pensions Centre that I would have to apply for a pension in both the UK and in Germany and that both pensions would be paid separately by the respective countries.

That wasn't my understanding of how the German system works when you have worked in other EU countries, I was under the impression that one pension would be paid by the German system taking into consideration the time I worked in the UK.

Anybody here in a similar situation and already drawing their pension? Let's leave Brexit out of the equation, that's a whole new can of worms.

Thanks for any info!
