Drivers license requirements in Oman (Muscat)

Hello everyone!

Can anyone tell me if I am obliged to had over my Dutch drivers license to the Oman office in order to obtain the Omani one? Someone told me that in some middle eastern countries the hand over of the original country drivers license is a must in order to obtain the local. I would not like to do that!
