Expats and Pickup trucks (Muscat)

Hi All,
Hoping someone can clear up a query for me - Am I correct in thinking that Expats are not allowed to drive Pickup trucks in Oman? Is this just red-plated vehicles, or is it all pickups. So an expat cannot rent, or own a pickup truck?
But this rule doesn't apply for 4x4s right?
