Where to stay in Muscat

Hi all. I will be taking my first trip to Muscat for work next week and looking for somewhere to stay. I was advised against staying in Ruwi as it would be 'a bad experience' however, the other hotels I have looked at seem very remote.

I just want to know what Ruwi is like as, it seemed to have reasonable budget hotels and, I am looking to be able to go out to eat/drink etc in the evening

Any advice would be much appreciated!
