Public transport Nairobi

Hi all!

I am moving to Nairobi to work from March. I've never been to Kenya before and am doing lots of research. One thing I am very confused about is transport.

I've read all kinds of advice - take a taxi after dark, avoid matatus, walking in general can be dangerous, don't cycle...so basically I'm wondering, how will I get around? I will be living and working there so what I'm trying to figure out is how will I get to work every day??? (if all forms of transport are so dangerous). Might sound silly but I really don't know anything about it!. What to do& how much will it cost to transport myself on a daily basis?
