ABOUT THE WALK:

In this walk we will be exploring Sufism- trace its origins and it’s advent in India, the several orders of Sufism and the characteristic differences as well as the Pir and Murid (master and follower) relationship. We will be exploring the idea of Sufism and much more through walking past some fascinating monuments in the Mehrauli.

Through this walk we will be covering the following monuments and ruins - Hauze-e-Samsi (water tank), Jahaz Mahal (water boat palace from 15th century), Jharna (waterfall from 18th century), Khawaja Syed Ghaznavi’s darga (a Sufi Saint from the Qadri order), Kala Mahal (an old khanaqha which is now a Madarassa), Zafar Mahal (Bahadhur Shah Zafar’s summer palace) and Khawaja Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki’s Tomb (famous Sufi saint from 12th century).

HOW TO REACH THE MEETING POINT:

-If you are coming via metro get down at Chattarpur metro station which is on the yellow line that terminates at ‘Huda City Centre’. Come out from gate no 1 and then take an auto to Auliya Masjid. The auto will charge you Rs. 40.

-If you are coming via road, kindly park your vehicle at the Chattarpur metro parking and then come towards the auto stand on the same side as the parking and then take an auto to Auliya Masjid. The auto will charge you Rs. 40.

WHAT TO WEAR AND CARRY:

- Carry your own edibles and water if possible.
- Carry an umbrella or cap to protect yourself from the heat.
- Carry kerchief or scarf or stole to cover your head inside the dargha/ tomb. (this applies to both men and women)
- Wear comfortable and covered clothing. Half pants, shorts, capris or tank tops will restrict your entry into the dargha/s. Jeans or full pants are permissible as long it is accompanied by a decent top or kurta.
- Wear (if possible covered) walking shoes or sandals.
