Opening a bank account in the US (New York)

Hi all

I'm excited to be joining the internations community based in New York at the end of this month! I'm currently going through the usual mountain of paperwork to get there and am trying to figure out whether there is a benefit to trying to open a US account in the UK before I arrive, or whether to wait.

Does anyone have any experience / opinions on which is better (or easier!)
