Moving near Nuremberg in Jan 13

Hi,
Does anyone have any practical advice for the first couple of months living here? Im moving from the UK, and my new org is relocating me, but always useful to have other expats hints and tips!? topics I'd be very grateful to have your views on are:
Places to live?
Intial surprises and delights?
Taxes?
Is it worth getting a company car or the allowance?
Finding jobs for my spouse in mechanical engineering?
What to do in the first couple of months from a social point of view?
