Winter trip to northern Norway (Oslo)

Hi,
I am planning to visit Norway during the coming winter (Christmas time). My main goal is to see (at least try) northern lights and therefore would like to visit Tromso and surroundings. Does anybody have any suggestion for cheap accommodation possibilities in Tromso??
