Panamá Canal (Panama City)

A wonder marvelous of the human race, Panamá Canal changed the face of international sea traffic. Without Canal, sea trips would take 13,000 km longer, costing 10 times more than Canal toll fees.

Currently 35 to 40 vessels cross the Canal every day. It is already in place the construction of three additionals locks, that will allow a much larger traffic capacity, as well as the feasibility of crossing of much larger vessels.

Tip: Did you know that a French company started its construction, but failed to mother nature? Heavy rains and the indomable Chagres river took the company to bankruptcy. Years later American Government started all over again, this time to the success. 28,000 thousand people died during its construction, most of them due to yellow fever.
